Our story

The Näsijärvi Lake Trail was born at Ecofellows Ltd. (Ekokumppanit Oy) in 2014 when we started to generate an idea of an attractive local travelling product. The project was funded from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the project’s main point was the beautiful Näsijärvi Lake and its surrounding services and attractions.

Designing the routes, the baseline was to support Pirkanmaa region’s sustainable travelling, and support local services. The goal was to design the best routes for cyclists, where nature, locally grown food, culture and services play an important role. The routes were connected to cruising services on the lake and train services on the land. One of the points was to highlight the bicycle travelling opportunites for local people and also for broader audience.

Local economy, vitality and well-being were main themes when we thought about countryside. Näsijärvi Lake Trail also tries to highlight bicycle as a tool to travel locally and that way supporting the environment also.

The project had many partners in the launch year: The municipalities of Tampere, Ylöjärvi, Virrat, Juupajoki and Mänttä-Vilppula, and companies such as Hopealinja Oy/Runoilijan tie, Aamulehti Moro and Helkama Velox.

The main goal of the project was to give birth to a new travelling product in Pirkanmaa region that is open for everyone. The concept was meant to support the existing entrepreneurs in the region but also support new ones emerging. One of the goal was to create awareness of the travelling opportunites the region has to offer for people. The route is also a tool for supporting the local people’s active leisure time.

Pirkanmaa Union’s activation project was operating in 1.2.-31.12.2014 and the executor was EcoFellows Ltd. Näsijärvi Lake Trail got a broad support from the start. Encouraged by the support, we are still continuing the work on the project.

Our long term goal is to make the Näsijärvi Lake Trail and Pyhäjärvi Lake Trail locally, nationally and internationally renowned attraction in the Pirkanmaa region.
